Privacy In Computing

Question: Thoroughly analyze the significance of protection laws in United States, Europe and Asia and its impact on organizations and buyers. Answer: Presentation It has been discovered that the enormous nations, for example, EU and the US have been utilizing various methodologies to direct the utilization of the individual data in the data society. The fundamental purpose behind the various methodologies might be culture like security territories for individuals in the US is not quite the same as the individuals in Europe and different nations. Information Privacy in the U.S., E.U And Asia: An Ocean of Difference It is discovered that there have been different contrasts for the information protection law in the US and the EU which by and large appears to give more rights as to the person. Additionally, US adopted different specially appointed strategies for the information insurance, self guidelines just as enactments by not giving the single law likewise give far reaching treatment to the issues. According to the law expressed in the HIPAA it explicitly manages the predetermined territories like clinical records where limitations just as conditions apply. Despite the fact that the bills of right permit or give explicit right to protection according to the case Griswold v. Connecticut however the equivalent reaches out for the advanced domains has been a long way from the assurance. Notwithstanding the equivalent, vulnerability being the reality which each web organization watch out for careful for additional oversight just as hall against the equivalent and the equivalent has eased back in t he event that not wiped out and out. Thus, this has prompted threatening condition to the person who are controlling the data without anyone else on the web, with the room that has been given to the organizations occupied with the administration also capacity of the data (Doeskin, 2016). In the opposite, in the EU, the information security has been stemmed to a great extent from the bill which was passed during 1995 (information assurance Directives). The law reaffirm the regard with respect to the whole resident whether private and family life which in result has been setting undeniably more force on account of the individual (InfoSec Resources,2013). There is shield in order to guarantee the computerized protection since they have conceded the clients option to expel just as right any of the necessary data about them on the web or by banishing the predetermined organization from the moving of the information to some other organization. In Asia, the information insurance, different advancements have been made. European model for the information protection have been progressively persuasive during 2014. They have applied this model which been progressively prohibitive then the Europe and US. Thusly, this has prompted disagreeable condition to the person who are controlling the data without anyone else on the web, with the elbowroom that has been given to the organizations occupied with the administration also capacity of the data (Doeskin, 2016) Effect on Business and customers In US, It has been seen that the change in regard of the present information assurance has welcomed center around test being the basic component for the connection between the clients and the organizations. Effect of Temperature on Vitamin C in Orange Juice

Impact of Temperature on Vitamin C in Orange Juice Dynamic: This examination was intended to concentrate how various temperatures can influence the loss of nutrient C in squeezed orange put away for a fixed timeframe. Equivalent volume of newly crushed orange juices with known (introductory) nutrient C fixation were put away at various temperatures for example 10 °C, 20 °C, 30 °C, 40 °C, 50 °C and 60 °C for a consistent term of 5 days. After the capacity time frame, the nutrient C focus for every temperature was estimated by DCPIP titration and the distinction comparative with the underlying fixation was determined to figure the measure of nutrient C diminished. The consequence of this test demonstrated that the measure of nutrient C lost increments with the expansion in temperature and 10oC was the best temperature that gave minimal decrease in nutrient C focus. An examination utilizing Pearson item second connection coefficient has uncovered a solid positive direct connection between the two factors with the determined r esteem surpasses the basic incentive at 5 % huge level in this way, supporting the exploratory theory. Nutrient C is an exceptional compound gotten from one of the ascorbic enantiomers, L-ascorbate. It is a water solvent nutrient that can't be normally blended in human body.1 Therefore, it is imperative to have our eating regimen offset with satisfactory measure of it consistently. There are two significant jobs played by nutrient C; cancer prevention agent and collagen formation.2 These two highlights have set nutrient C in its very own class as a future potential in encouraging better wellbeing. A past research with respect to connection between nutrient C and human cerebrum has indicated that nutrient C could help medications to pass the blood mind barrier.6 This would empower cerebrum illnesses, for example, Parkinson to be viably treated as fake dopamine can be conveyed straightforwardly to the mind. Simultaneously, the greatest test in bone marrow treatment for example getting enough cells, might be settled as an ongoing report by Dunagqing Pei13 on nutrient C, has discovered that it can help the creation and pluripotency of immature microorganisms in human body. Be that as it may, Vitamin C is likewise known to be truly powerless towards heat. The forerunner of nutrient C, ascorbic corrosive, has sub-atomic of C6H8O6. The closeness of profoundly electronegative oxygen molecules on the hydroxyl (OH) bunches makes the hydrogen iotas to turn out to be handily withdrawn from the structure. In the mean time, the nearness of warmth causes the hydroxyl attach to break the ascorbic corrosive is said to experience demolition or oxidation by losing hydrogen iotas, framing dehydroascorbic corrosive. Accordingly, it is proposed that the pace of ascorbic corrosive devastation is essentially more prominent at higher temperature.* A large portion of the examinations on nutrient C corruption are primarily founded on the impact of capacity condition and period, and not very many were done on recognizing the debasement pattern inside a particular scope of temperature. Past research, on the impact of capacity strategies and conditions on nutrient C maintenance in human milk uncovered that freezing lessens minimal measure of nutrient C when contrasted with other capacity techniques, trailed by refrigeration which is superior to cold water. Another examination at Ankara University, has indicated a backwards connection among temperature and degree of consistency of nutrient C in citrus natural product concentrates, while orange organic product was found to have higher maintenance capacity than the others. Consequently, this trial was intended to locate a particular pattern with respect with the impact of temperature on the loss of nutrient C. Citrus natural products (orange) were utilized in this trial because of considerable measure of nutrient C that they have, accordingly, expanding the dependability of the outcomes. The outcomes from this investigation can be utilized to delineate how certain temperatures can cause uncommon change in nutrient C subsequently, expanding the mindfulness on valuing the exertion of protecting nutrient C content in nourishment for ideal medical advantage. For example, in farming tropical areas that develop citrus natural products, it turns out to be exceptionally imperative to save the organic products at low temperature if conceivable because of higher possibility of nutrient C obliteration than different districts. Test Hypothesis: The higher the temperature, the higher the corruption of nutrient C in newly pressed squeezed orange. Invalid Hypothesis: There is no critical connection between the diverse temperature and the debasement of nutrient C in newly crushed squeezed orange. Arranging Five kinds of citrus organic products were haphazardly picked, namel: lemon, lime, grapefruit, Clementine and orange. The new squeeze of each natural product was acquired through cutting and crushing. The nutrient C content for every juice was controlled by titration against 1 ml of 1 % DCPIP. The titration was rehashed multiple times to get a normal volume of the juice expected to decolourise DCPIP. The outcome: Minimal volume of orange was expected to decolourise DCPIP, demonstrating that it has the most noteworthy nutrient C content. In this way, orange natural product was picked as it would give huge reaction towards various temperatures. Deciding the best stockpiling time frame: A few orange natural products were crushed to acquire new squeezed orange that would be sufficient for its nutrient C substance to be estimated on regular schedule. Right off the bat, the underlying nutrient C substance of the juice was estimated and 4.8 ml was expected to decolourise 1 ml of DCPIP arrangement. Equivalent volume of the rest of the juice was isolated into two measuring utencils and every wa put away in a hatchery of various temperatures (10 °C and 60 °C). Two particular temperatures were picked to permit simple correlation of the pattern in every temperature. The outcome: The outcome shows no more change in volume of juice required following 5 days for 60 °C. In this manner, stockpiling time of five days were picked for the principle explore. Principle EXPERIMENT Factors: Controlled variable: Different temperatures (oC) (6 hatcheries were set at various temperatures of 10 °C, 20 °C 0, 30 °C, 40 °C, 50 °C and 60 °C) Reacting variable: Amount of nutrient C lost (By DCPIP titration, the distinction among introductory and last nutrient C focus in every juice wasâ calculated to decide the centralization of nutrient C decreased) Fixed factors : Storage period, volume and grouping of DCPIP, sort of organic products (The capacity time frame was five days. 1ml of 0.1% DCPIP Used for every titration) Mechanical assembly: Containers, blade, test tubes, syringes, Parafilm, aluminum paper, hatcheries, mortar and pestle, estimating chamber. Materials: Orange natural products, 1% dichlorophenolinophenol (DCPIP) arrangement, refined water, 500 mg nutrient C tablet. Genuine Experimental Procedures: Normalizing Vitamin C Concentration: 1) A tablet of 500 mg nutrient C tablet was squashed into fine powders utilizing a mortar and a pestle. 2) The fine type of nutrient C was then broken down into 100 ml of refined water in a recepticle to shape 5 mg/ml of ascorbic arrangement. 3) 1 ml of 1% DCPIP arrangement was estimated and put into a test tube by utilizing a syringe. 4) 1 ml of 5 mg/ml of ascorbic corrosive arrangement was then taken utilizing a syringe and included drop by drop into the deliberate DCPIP arrangement until decolourised. 5) The volume of ascorbic corrosive arrangement expected to decolourise the DCPIP arrangement was recorded. 6) The titration procedure was repeater multiple times to get a normal volume. The aftereffect of titration is as per the following: Volume of Juice Titrated/ml Henceforth, 2.5 ml of 5 mg/ml of ascorbic corrosive arrangement was expected to decolourise 1 ml of 1% DCPIP arrangement To discover a recipe to ascertain nutrient C focus in squeezed orange, Conc. of squeezed orange (mg/ml) Vol. of squeezed orange (mg/ml) = 5 mg/ml 2.5 ml Since the volume expected to decolourise is relative to nutrient C focus. So. Conc. of squeezed orange (ml) 2.5 ml = 5 mg/ml Vol. of squeezed orange (mg/ml) 2.5 ml Grouping of squeezed orange (mg/ml) = X 5 mg/ml Vol. of squeezed orange (ml) Along these lines, this figuring would be utilized to compute the nutrient C fixation. Deciding nutrient C misfortune: 10 orange organic products were sliced and pressed to get new squeeze. 1 ml of 1% DCPIP arrangement was estimated and set into a test tube by utilizing a syringe. 1 ml syringe was loaded up with the squeezed orange and included drop by drop into the DCPIP arrangement until it decolourised. The volume of juice included was recorded. The titration was rehashed multiple times to get a normal volume and its nutrient C fixation was determined utilizing the inferred equation. The juice was then separated into 6 equivalent volumes and each positioned into 100 ml measuring glass. The highest point of every measuring utencil was fixed with Parafilm and its surface was wrapped with aluminum paper and named with various temperatures. The measuring glasses were set in six hatcheries of various temperatures as per the name and left for five days. Following five days, the containers were closed. 1 ml of 1% DCPIP arrangement was estimated and moved into a test tube by utilizing a syringe. The squeezed orange put away in 10 °C was taken by a syringe and included drop by drop into the DCPIP until it decolourised. The volume of juice included was recorded The titration was titrated multiple times to get a normal volume and its nutrient C focus was determined utilizing the recipe: 2.5 ml Convergence of squeezed orange (mg/ml) = X 5 mg/ml Vol. of squeezed orange (ml) Stages 8-10 were rehashed yet this time utilizing the orange juices put away in  °C, 30 °C, 40 °C, 50 °C and 60 °C. The distinction between the underlying focus and the last convergence of every juice was determined to decide the measure of nutrient C lost. Hazard Assessment: The way toward cutting the orange natural products required the utilization of blade, so it was done cautiously to maintain a strategic distance from any injury. The natural products were then pressed delicately to limit heat creation. The juice was just arranged just before the analysis was going to be completed. DCPIP is a solid color which is difficult to be expelled so sterile jacket wa

The Latest Updates

The Latest Updates So, MyMIT is back up, and things are back to normal around here. (Or at least as normal as things can be less than two weeks before the early action deadline) As Ben has already noted, we have extended the deadline by which Early Action applicants should contact their Educational Counselors (ECs). The deadline to contact your EC is now this Monday, October 23. I do recommend contacting your EC this weekend, if you havent done so yet. The MyMIT hardware failure did not affect the data of the vast majority of applicants. We have personally contacted the small set of students who were affected by the problem. For those of you who are applying, I encourage you not to wait until the last minute to finish and submit your application. Things happen computer crashes, big storms, earthquakes, etc. Well always be flexible in the case of an act of God delaying your application, but its better for your peace of mind to complete your application in advance of the deadline. Now is also a good time to check in with those folks who are writing recommendations for you. Sometimes a kind and gentle reminder can be helpful. Otherwise, I hope you have a great weekend! And for those of you celebrating, Happy Diwali, and Eid Mubarak!

The California s Prison System - 990 Words

California’s prison system is facing a number of infrastructure changes as a result of a judicial decision that came down from the United States Supreme Court, Governor of California et al v. Plata et al. California’s prison system was deemed inadequate and dangerous due to severe overcrowding which led to â€Å"needless suffering and death† (Rogan, 2012, 262). The court ruled that the State must reduce the number of inmates in California’s thirty-three state prisons. This ruling came about after two class-action lawsuits were filed, Coleman v. Wilson in 1990 and Plata v. Davis in 2001 (Rogan, 2012, 261). These lawsuits were filed by inmates that claimed they received poor medical and mental health care within the State’s prison health care system (Vicini, 2011,1). The evidence presented in these cases showed several shortcomings in California s prison health care system (Rogan, 2012, 264). These shortfalls were a result of severe overcrowding within California’s thirty-three state prisons. At its peak in 2006, California’s prisons were filled with approximately 172,000 inmates. However, these prisons were designed to hold about 80,000 individuals (Vicini, 2011, 3). At that point, State prisons were filled at 215% over capacity. Because of overcrowding, prison inmates faced chronic and severe shortages in basic medical and mental health care services (Vicini, 2011, 1). Learning to Cope Free Essays

Davon Daniels Professor Moss English 1500 11/20/12 Draft 2 Learning to Cope Just about everyone has lost that one person that they really care about and they know that everything can change at the drop of a hat. Death is an unexpected occurrence that could sometimes have long lasting mental and physical effects on people. In the play Down the Aisle by Patricia Leigh Gaborik a young girl Katie and her family are learning to cope with the death of their loved one. We will write a custom essay sample on Learning to Cope or any similar topic only for you Order Now People handle the death of a loved one in different ways, and Katie tries to handle the death of her father by holding on to all the good memories she had of him. Not only is Katie deeply affected by their lost but the rest of her family is learning to cope with their lost by taking on different roles when he pasts. The father is a symbolic character in this play because he is the rock of their family, because he is strong and dependable. Each character in the play experiences different conflicts and changes in their relationship after losing the person they all loved the most. One conflict experienced in the play is the relationship between Katie and her mother before and after the death of Katie’s father. Katie and her mother don’t have the best relationship and at times it seems that Katie wishes that she would’ve been in the car accident with her father. This is a conflict because it seems as if Katie may blame her mother for the death of her father for making him go out while she stayed at home and took care of Katie. This causes a lot of tension between Katie and her mother because she also feels as though the death of her father might also be her fault. At the end of the play Katie and her mother appear to be closer to each other and her mother even apologizes for the things she’s done in the past and talks about Katie’s father. This is important because after years of not really speaking about him it shows that their mother is just starting to cope with his death. Her mother states in the play â€Å"I know you always thought I did everything wrong† (pg. 251). This shows that even though she knows they didn’t have the best relationship in the past that she’s trying to be there for her and only wants the best for her. Katie and her brother Joe has a typical brother and sister relationship they argue a lot but at the same time they care for each other. At times Joe even calls his sister Katie a brat but still offers to do things for her. The death of their father changed their relationship because Joe seems to be the person that now holds the family together. This appears to be Joe’s way of coping with his father’s death because he feels as if he has to be strong for both Katie and his mother and take on the new role of the man of the house. Joe: â€Å"What d’ya think?! Mom! The music’s started! You have to get to your seat! Aw, mom. I told you not to say that stuff. You said it, didn’t you? You’re crying! Come on! Happy. Happy! Are you happy? See, she’s happy. Everybody’s happy. It’s a happy day. Let’s go! Let’s go! This quote is a great example of how Joe keeps everything together as everyone starts to breakdown; he represents the new rock and strength of their family. Katie’s relationship with her father is the most important because out of everyone in their family she had the closest relationship with him. A major conflict in the story is that Katie after these past years still can come to terms with her father’s death. On her wedding day as she’s preparing to walk down the aisle she in visions herself having a conversation with her father and reminiscing about all the good memories they shared. Katie says â€Å"I don’t understand you’re supposed to be the one I can count on† (pg. 247). This quote shows that even though Katie may not entirely get over the death of her father but she is slowly getting to the point where she is learning to deal with it. At the end of the play the conversation between Katie and her mother helps her come to terms with the death of her father because that was first time that they have actually had a conversation about him. Someone who hasn’t lost someone they really care about may not know how it feels emotionally to overcome the death of someone they love but death is hard to get over and not everyone gets over it quickly. The overall theme of these conflicts is that everyone learns to cope with the death of someone in their own way and at their own time. For Katie the wedding shows her starting a new beginning not only for her but for her family as well. How to cite Learning to Cope, Essays

Water Pollution free essay sample

The selection on water resource that I am going to talk about is water pollution. Water pollution is caused by different problems when people dump human or animal waste into the rivers and oceans, chemicals, and oil. Water pollution can have several different causes which makes it really hard to fix all of it. One of the main causes of water pollution is sewage when we deal with this type of water pollution it effects our lives in many different ways. A lot of people on this earth dispose of sewage all of the time, when people dispose of sewage in any lakes, rivers, and the ocean, when people do this it effects our health and our living conditions more than we think. These people who do this do not realize that polluting the water is bad and that it can get a lot of people sick. One thing that I think would be a good thing to put in place is a management plan; this plan will be able to alleviate the problem of water pollution. We will write a custom essay sample on Water Pollution or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In my opinion I believe that water pollution needs to have very strict laws when it comes to waste and fuel dumping. They need to have certain people that go out and test these lakes, rivers, and oceans to make sure that no one is dumping anything into the water. I also think that the government needs to have laws out that says if anyone gets caught dumping anything into lakes, rivers, or oceans will have to pay a fine, and if it does not get paid then they jail time. In my opinion I do not understand where any person have an opposing view when it comes to water pollution. My view on water pollution will be about making sure that this world stops polluting our water one step at a time. I have seen heard about people who do not care if they are polluting our water, why would our government let this go on? The people who pollute our water do not see the big problems that occur because of this it is killing all of the living creatures that live in these waters, and also hurting the people who use this water for things like showers, and to drink. One type of system that we could use is called the watershed. A watershed is the boundaries for water resource, what this does is it drains to all of the bodies of water like lakes, rivers, etc. This plan is a strategy for effectively protecting and restoring aquatic ecosystem, protecting human health, and also preserving other natural resources. I have to say that since they did pass the Clean Water Act our country has made a pretty good progress in protecting all of the water, but we still have a long way to go. Everyday households are facing water pollution and probably do not even know it. Your homes are the first place that you can stop water pollution. Some ways that you can do this is by disposing hazardous household products, and always recycle. By doing this we can cut a lot of water pollution, but it can also become a challenge. When it comes to water pollution, I will make sure that the community I live in will know how they can stop polluting the water. There will be many different rules and regulations that will have to be followed no matter what. For us living in this world today we need to come up with as many different ways to protect our water from getting polluted. It is going to take a lot to get everyone to stop polluting the water, and the only way I can think of doing that is by showing them exactly what happens when they put anything into the water that does not belong in there. In my opinion I believe that the only way that we are going to really stop polluting the water is by starting with our self. The reason why I say that is because if we can make our self get into the routine of doing the right thing when it comes to waste, chemicals, and other things of that sort then we can really make a difference. Complete, 4-Step Email List Building Strategy For Success

Complete, 4-Step Email List Building Strategy For Success Over here we have the goal: I want to make tons of money from my online business. And over here we have the reality: I have a website. I’m making some money, but I wouldn’t call it â€Å"success† just yet. The question you have been wrestling with for months now is, â€Å"How do I get from my reality to my goal?† Or in other words How do you turn your website into a real money-maker? If you’ve been been in the blogging game very long, or if you’ve simply read 10 total marketing articles at any point in the last 5 years, you know that the money is in your email list.  Email marketing has the highest ROI  of any marketing channel, and for content producers, its your #1 source of traffic, social shares, and revenue. The Complete, 4-Step #Email List Building Strategy That Will Make You Successful via @jmcmillen89There are many places you can go for email list building  tips. Here’s a great list of 21 ways to build your email list. But articles like these require you to have a competent system already in place AND to understand what you are ultimately trying to do with that system. Today, we are going to go through the full process from start to finish- everything you need from email list creation to effective monetization. The basic process looks like this: I’m going to show you how YOU can implement this process without any outside help whatsoever. For those of you who like to skip the tinkering or take things to the next level, there’s a special offer  for you at the end. Let’s start with Step 1 of your email list building strategy. Step #1: Create Your Email List This is the easiest step, but how many of you reading this have yet to start your list, because... research. You don’t want to select the wrong provider or you don’t want to spend money and then not put the work in. Well guess what? I’m solving both of those problems for you right now. If you’ve been waiting for a solid beginner email provider, go ahead and click here  to immediately start your FREE account with MailChimp. There’s no costs until you reach a handsomely monetizable 2,000 email subscribers. Problem solved. Now, select â€Å"Lists† in the top bar and then click â€Å"Create List†. Fill in a few admin details, and BAM, you’re done! Now that you have your list, let’s move on to tricking out your website for email collection. Step #2: Optimize Your Website For Email Collection This is where you  get to have some fun, at least, if you're anything like me. If you want your website to perform as a business funnel, your highest core value should be simplicity. Think simple and then think simpler. Simple design Single goal Necessary features only If you want to build a serious email list, that list has to be one of the #1 goals of your website. And on that note, immediately axe EVERY feature that doesn’t facilitate email signups. (If you can sell to your customers immediately via product trials or e-commerce, those are great features to keep around.) There’s a only a handful of features you  need to collect email effectively: Some form of compelling lead magnet Above-the-fold email opt-in CTA Email opt-in popup End-of-content email opt-in Let’s take a closer look at each of these. Recommended Reading:  How To Blog With As Little As Possible Create a compelling lead magnet. While some users will like your content so much, they will simply hand over their email address, these users are the exception rather than the rule. You need to have a few cards up your sleeve that will compel visitors to become subscribers. You need to have something valuable that you can freely offer visitors in exchange for their email address. These are called â€Å"lead magnets†. A great example can be found right here at , which uses its restricted-access resource library to invite readers like you to become subscribers. Check out 's resource library as an example of a compelling lead magnet. Just look at the top of your screen. See the light blue bar that says â€Å"Get 60+ Free Resources Now!†? Yep, that’s a lead magnet. There is virtually no limit to what you can use as a lead magnet: Restricted resource library Topical e-book Collection of templates Exclusive content only given to subscribers Audio or video downloads Email course training series Checklist PDFs Software tool access etc. When evaluating something as a potential lead magnet, it needs to answer â€Å"Yes† to two  vitally important questions: Is this something my marketing target audience would LOVE and no one else would really care about? Is this something that can be automatically distributed upon signup and doesn’t incur marginal cost at my expense? Virtually everyone wants a free laptop, but giving out laptops in exchange for email addresses breaks both or these rules. People who have zero interest in your website’s topic/product will claim the laptop with zero return on your investment, and the marginal cost of purchasing a laptop per subscriber is an insanely inefficient way to collect email addresses. Pick something that answers â€Å"Yes† to both the above questions, and you’ll be good to go. Place an email opt-in CTA above the fold. When we are discussing a desktop setup, your above-the-fold real estate is by far the most valuable. It absolutely must include a CTA that leads to email signup or information collection of some nature. A great example of this is Noah Kagan’s blog OkDork. As soon as you show up on the home page, you are immediately propositioned for your email address in exchange for Noah’s lead magnet. The entry box gives visitors a no-friction, one-click way to give you their email. Noah’s company SumoMe  recently released an application called Welcome Mat  that helps  you to implement this exact same technique on any website, landing page or blog. Here’s an example of the free version in action on my men’s blog. This is my homepage hero shot: You’ll notice I already have an opt-in form above the fold at the top of the right sidebar. I’m using this simple MailChimp for WordPress plugin, which can be inserted via the widget area of your WordPress dashboard. When Welcome Mat is installed, the following screen immediately drops down for new users visiting my website: This not only allows me to collect email, but it also gives me a chance to immediately hit users with a targeted value proposition. Visitors who show up to my site and resonate with â€Å"taking an honest look at manhood†, are more likely to subscribe or continue reading and subscribe later. Collect emails above the fold with immediate value propositions. Here's how. #listbuildingAs a final example, I want to address the freelancers and direct-service providers among you who are wanting to build your email, but honestly, your biggest priority is direct contact for currently interested clients. I feel you. I’m in a similar boat. I help business owners do a lot of what I’m talking to you about in this article, but at level 1,000. Here’s how I handle those dual goals. This is my services landing page: The red button takes visitors through my sales pitch, which will end in a request for their email. The green button takes visitors directly to the form where they give me their email. Since I am focusing on lead generation here, this strategy won’t be as effective for scaling out a massive email list as what I’ve discussed above. However, I am still acquiring a list of SUPER targeted emails of people interested in my services who I can retarget at a later date or invite to view my blog content. Have segmented  #emaillists based on your goals to really drive conversions.Create an email opt-in popup Let’s be honest. No one really thinks about popups with fond thoughts and fuzzy memories. Except website owners interested in collecting emails. Those gals and guys LOVE popups, because they work. They really, really, really  work. In fact, I doubt you can find a single, high-traffic marketing blog that doesn’t currently use popups. I’m using- you guessed it- SumoMe’s free popup application: Since installing this simple popup, my subscription rate has doubled. I’ve had 2x the subscribers over this last year as I did before, and I have probably posted half as much content this year as I did the year before. Popups work. Since I’m using the free version, I am unable to offer a lead magnet within my popup, but if I were to upgrade, I could display something like this, which would probably improve my signup rate even further: If you want to install SumoMe’s Listbuilder popup application, simply follow the directions here. Create email signup opportunities at the end of your content. You probably already know this, but most visitors to your blog posts won’t read the full post. Maybe they will skim and maybe they will just read a few points and leave. If they make it all the way to the end, they are â€Å"picking up what you’re putting down†. This is a golden opportunity for you to capture these casual visitors into your email list â€Å"fold†. Don’t waste it! Include a signup opportunity at the end of every post. There is an easy way to do this with a moderate return, and then there is a more difficult- AKA  time consuming- way to do this that will net you a much higher return. The easy way involves nothing more than including a signup form at the end of each post, like this: ... OR offering your standard lead magnet, like this example from CoachTube: Simply create a graphic like the one from CoachTube  and display it at the end of your post with a link to your email signup page. That’s the easy way. The more difficult way is to make a different lead magnet for every single one of your posts. This is called a â€Å"content upgrade†, and it gets better results because it is directly related to what your visitors were just reading about. Note: By the way, there's a content upgrade in this post right in the introduction to help convert visitors into subscribers right away. has seen this as an excellent way to turn organic traffic into long-term, engaged subscribers. Here’s an example from Brian Dean’s blog Backlinko: Content upgrades have been the primary fuel in the emergence of several new leading blogs in the marketing blogosphere. I’ve seen case study after case study of unbelievable results. While it requires a bigger investment on your part, It’s worth giving this strategy a try. To learn more about posting content upgrades, check out Bryan Harris’ guide. Step #3. Implement Email Marketing Within Your Content Strategy While email is your best single tool for building an audience, it’s still just one piece of your content strategy. Your overall content strategy should be targeting your desired audience via recurring, well-promoted content that gets people to you website and into position for email capture. If you aren’t getting people to your site, you won’t be getting any email signups. Recommended Reading:  How To Publish More Consistent Content That Will Help You Grow A Successful Blog Fortunately, your email list can play the star role in getting traffic to your website. Sometimes, people overcomplicate the email marketing process. They get scared of sending too many emails and wait too long to contact their audience, or they aren’t really sure what to write, so they just throw a bunch of stuff in. Before I describe a ridiculously simple (yet effective) way to run your email marketing, let’s review our goals. The goal of any content marketing campaign is twofold: Build an audience of people interested in your chosen topic. Build trust within that audience and an expectation of quality from your brand. We want everyone who comes into contact with your brand to think, â€Å"Wow, they don’t mess around. That was good stuff.† We DON’T want people subconsciously   thinking, â€Å"I’ve seen this 100 times before. You think I’m going to buy your paid product when this free stuff is so weak?† Now that we’ve established our goal, let’s look at how email can play a part. Here’s a ridiculously simple, beginner strategy for email marketing that will get your content some great results. Anytime you publish a new blog post, send out the following email: Subject line: â€Å"Compelling headline meant to grab maximum email opens† (check out 's headline analyzer for some help.) Header image taken from published post. Short introduction setting up a hook to get people to your post. Link to your post. Button(s) to click for instant shares. It’s that simple. Check out this example: How easy is that? And guess how well this hopelessly simple email performed? I will take 50% opens and 30% clicks every day of the week. Don’t overcomplicate this. Your emails don’t need to be complicated to be effective. In fact, they should be decidedly uncomplicated. Now that we’ve identified a simple template for each individual email, how should we incorporate these emails into a fuller content strategy? I’m glad you asked. Again, this is a baseline strategy anyone can do and everyone should be doing (at minimum). I’ve found from working with countless clients over the years that many bloggers have trouble finding a repeatable process off which to base their content strategy, so I’m condensing it into a few simple tips. Publish your blog between 12 p.m. and 5 a.m. ET. The easiest way to do this is to schedule it to automatically publish via WordPress, or if you’ve made the incredibly wise decision to get a subscription, you can schedule posts easily  through their dashboard. Recommended Reading:  When Is The Best Time To Publish A Blog Post? Schedule an email to go out the day your post goes live. The specific time will vary based on your topic and audience. For weekday posts, I’d recommend sending out emails around 7 a.m. ET, as that will put your content at the top of most readers’ inboxes when they either get to work or check their emails before  work. Promote your content across social channels. You can do this manually, or, if you have a account, you can automatically schedule postings across your networks AND repostings at later dates. These three tips  are  a great beginning baseline if you aren’t already doing it for each new post. Step #4. Monetize Your Email List I want to quickly take you through all four email monetization strategies, because they’re worth knowing and you can achieve big wins with each one. Sell affiliate offers to your list. Sell advertising placement in your â€Å"newsletter†. Make your email newsletter a paid subscription. Sell your own product. Let’s start with the first email list building monetization strategy. Sell affiliate offers to your email list. Affiliate marketing is as old as the Web itself. It made millionaires in the late-90’s/early-2000’s, back when lots of people  who stumbled online were becoming millionaires. Today, you are far more likely to be sold an expensive course on becoming a millionaire affiliate marketer than you are to actually become one yourself. It’s not that affiliate marketing can’t work, it’s just a much less efficient way to make money than creating and selling your own product. Furthermore, you typically have no control over the quality or customer service attached to an affiliate product, so you risk losing trust every time a subscriber makes a purchase. The BIG exception and the RIGHT way to implement affiliate marketing is to select a few products/services you trust that generate RESIDUAL income. Here’s the only example you really need to know. Pat Flynn is considered a veritable influencer  in the marketing blogosphere. You’ve almost definitely heard of him, and you most likely read his blog. Pat made $116,891.83 last August. That number may boggle your mind at first glance, but let’s take a look at the numbers: Pat earned revenue from 13 total affiliate offers. His affiliate earnings made up 72% of his total income for the month of August. But most significantly, Pat made 55% of his entire August revenue from just two offers. Both these offers, Bluehost and LeadPages, are subscription-based services, meaning every time Pat signs up a new customer, he begins getting paid on a monthly basis for as long as that customer remains a customer. Pat has been selling Bluehost website hosting since at least March 2010. When he first began referring Bluehost, it accounted for less than 8% of his monthly revenue, but after 5 years of accumulating referred users, he is collecting monthly checks worth 40% of his total revenue from just this one referral. Now, it’s your turn. Pick a subscription-based service that meets the following criteria: You already love it. It’s a no-brainer for your customers. It's intended to be used indefinitely. Slap that referral link into your next email and talk it up big to your email subscribers. You should also create a targeted landing page (like this)  on your website, pitching your visitors. Boom. Done. Sell ad placements on your â€Å"newsletter†. I place â€Å"newsletter† in quotes because your emails really shouldn’t look like a traditional newsletter, and I’m a stickler for semantics. Quirks aside, I’m not really talking about banner-style ads here. Banner ads are tacky in a newsletter, and it’s not really what your customers subscribed for. Paid ad placement in your newsletter should look a lot like affiliate marketing, with the primary difference being you are getting paid to place rather than paid based on subscriber engagement. Have you considered including native advertising in your email newsletters? This works particularly well with niche newsletters, because the smaller the market, the more valuable it is for a new brand to get its name in front of relevant viewers. How do you get such placements? Sorry, the answer is direct sales. Pick 10 brands in your niche, and email them something like, â€Å"I have 1,000 email subscribers centered around your niche, and I think they would be very interested in learning more about [brand]. I’d love to discuss running a [brand] promotion in an upcoming newsletter.† It’s really that simple. What brand doesn’t want to be promoted? From there, it’s just a matter of negotiating payment. Make your email newsletter a  paid subscription. I’m including this one because it’s a relevant option, but I wouldn’t recommend you try it as your core email list building monetization strategy. People are very used to being asked for their email in exchange for content, and they are becoming increasingly hesitant to give that email address away. If you have the audacity to ask for money in exchange for your emails, your email content better include the following: Highly valuable, world-class type content. Exclusive content that can ONLY be found via your email list. Unless your newsletter is offering in-demand content that can’t be found anywhere else, this strategy could be a bit difficult to implement super successfully. Create and sell your own product. This is, in my opinion, the best strategy for monetizing your email list.  Create a product and sell it to your list. That’s it. That’s the goal. You should be aspiring to do this, and then you should stop aspiring and just do it... now. As Jeff Walker  says, â€Å"The best way to launch a product is to build an email list, and the best way to build an email list is to launch a product.† But why is this the best monetization strategy? Higher margins: There’s no middle man when it’s your product. Better targeting:  Your audience can tell you exactly what they want. Life-time value:  You retain all customer behavior data, allowing for much more effective retargeting and upsells over the customer’s lifetime. Follow these tips  in order to do it right: Collaborate with subscribers on identifying a product they want Create the product. Pre-sell the product. Launch the product. Improve the product. Let’s walk our way through a basic version of this process. Collaborate The easiest way to create a product people want is to ask them what they want. Brainstorm a few possible product ideas and ask your subscribers to give you feedback on what they like/dislike about them. Ask them specifically if they would consider buying each option. Once you’ve found an idea people are really into- preferably one that doesn’t require significant investment for your first attempt- it’s time to create. Recommended Reading:  5 Easy Lead Conversion Tips For Your Email Marketing Program A great example for beginners would be an info-product like an e-book. Create Product creation is a massively complex topic outside the scope of this post. For the purpose of this article, let’s just say you're creating an e-book. Here a few keys to compeleting an e-book that doesn’t suck: Create an outline first. Set unchangeable deadlines for each section in your outline. Write the dang thing. Supplement each point with facts/case-studies/examples/data of some kind. Don’t check â€Å"done† until it’s something you would pay to read. Next. Pre-Sell Never â€Å"cold sell† to your email list. You should always pre-sell before you sell. This process is intended to prime your audience for your product by getting them thinking very heavily about the problem your product solves. Send emails and write posts discussing this problem. Discuss beginner-level strategies for solving that problem. Talk about how you’ve solved it using your product or the information contained in the product. And then close... Launch Now it’s time to actually launch the product. The key to a successful product launch is getting all hands on deck. Get everyone you know with a relevant audience to help you promote your launch. Call in every favor. Get your product in front of every possible channel. Recommended Reading:  How Will Outreach Marketing Make Your Blog More Successful? It’s dangerous to go alone. Your product launch is the time to promote. A lot. Put the work in to create something you’re proud of and then share it with the world. Improve Your launch is just the beginning of your product. Get feedback, improve your product, and keep marketing it. How Will You Improve Your Email List Building Strategy? We’ve covered quite a bit of ground in today’s post. If you’re still reading, you are most likely serious about implementing an effective email list building strategy  via your website. Having helped numerous clients through this process (my last client went from 500–10,000 subscribers in two months), I can tell you that  these are super important steps for successful implementation: Create your list: Anyone can do this with zero help. Just follow the instructions in this post. Optimize your site: If you're willing to take the time to tinker, test, and tweak, anyone can set up their website for email optimization using the method I described in this article. You will need to familiarize yourself with copywriting and conversion rate optimization in order to properly utilize the tools I showed you, but you can absolutely do it yourself.  If you’d prefer to just have a pro do it for you, I’m offering a special setup rate for readers here. Run your content strategy:  Unless you have some big bucks to shell out, you will need to do the bulk of this on your own.   is a great resource for actually running a successful content strategy. Launch your product: Product launches are extremely technical and entail a lot of moving parts. I wouldn’t recommend doing your first launch by yourself. One client I worked with had 150,000 social followers but virtually zero website engagement. I gave his team a content strategy, and within two weeks, they had a blog generating 4k shares per article and nearly 100 comments per post. I’m offering a one-time, discounted rate for readers who would like me to map out a step-by-step strategy  for them. If you want to try it solo anyway, go get ‘em cowboy! You’ll want to follow Bryan Harris’ outline for his first product launch. Thanks for taking the time to read, learn, and grow as a blogger or online business owner. Like you, the world of online business never ceases to amaze and fascinate me. Feel free to ask a question or leave a comment, and if you enjoyed this article, don’t hesitate to give it a share!

Simon Bolivar and the Battle of Boyaca

Simon Bolivar and the Battle of Boyaca On August 7, 1819, Simà ³n Bolà var engaged Spanish General Josà © Marà a Barreiro in battle near the Boyaca River in present-day Colombia. The Spanish force was spread out and divided, and Bolà var was able to kill or capture almost all of the enemy combatants. It was the decisive battle for the liberation of New Granada (now Colombia). Bolivar and the Independence Stalemate in Venezuela In early 1819, Venezuela was at war: Spanish and Patriot generals and warlords were fighting each other all over the region. New Granada was a different story: there was an uneasy peace, as the populace was ruled with an iron fist by Spanish Viceroy Juan Josà © de Smano from Bogota. Simon Bolivar, greatest of the rebel generals, was in Venezuela, dueling with Spanish General Pablo Morillo, but he knew that if he could just get to New Granada, Bogota was practically undefended. Bolivar Crosses the Andes Venezuela and Colombia are divided by a high arm of the Andes Mountains: parts of it are practically impassible. From May to July of 1819, however, Bolivar led his army over the pass of Pramo de Pisba. At 13,000 feet (4,000 meters), the pass was extremely treacherous: deadly winds chilled the bones, snow and ice made footing difficult, and ravines claimed pack animals and men to falls. Bolivar lost a third of his army in the crossing, but made it to the western side of the Andes in early July, 1819: the Spanish at first had no idea he was there. Battle of Vargas Swamp Bolivar quickly regrouped and recruited more soldiers from the eager population of New Granada. His men engaged the forces of young Spanish general Josà © Marà a Barreiro at the battle of Vargas Swamp on July 25: it ended in a draw, but showed the Spanish that Bolà var had arrived in force and was headed for Bogota. Bolivar moved quickly to the town of Tunja, finding supplies and weapons meant for Barreiro. Royalist Forces at the Battle of Boyaca Barreiro was a skilled general who had a trained, veteran army. Many of the soldiers, however, had been conscripted from New Granada and doubtless there were some whose sympathies were with the rebels. Barreiro moved to intercept Bolivar before he could reach Bogota. In the vanguard, he had some 850 men in the elite Numancia battalion and 160 skilled cavalry known as dragoons. In the main body of the army, he had about 1,800 soldiers and three cannons. The Battle of Boyaca Begins On August 7, Barreiro was moving his army, trying to get into position to keep Bolivar out of Bogota long enough for reinforcements to arrive. By the afternoon, the vanguard had gone ahead and crossed the river at a bridge. There they rested, waiting for the main army to catch up. Bolà var, who was much closer than Barreiro suspected, struck. He ordered General Francisco de Paula Santander to keep the elite vanguard forces occupied while he hammered away at the main force. A Stunning Victory It worked out even better than Bolivar had planned. Santander kept the Numancia Battalion and Dragoons pinned down, while Bolivar and General Anzotegui attacked the shocked, spread-out main Spanish army. Bolà var quickly surrounded the Spanish host. Surrounded and cut off from the best soldiers in his army, Barreiro quickly surrendered. All told, the royalists lost more than 200 killed and 1,600 captured. The patriot forces lost 13 killed and about 50 wounded. It was a total victory for Bolà var. On to Bogot With Barreiro’s army crushed, Bolà var quickly made for the city of Santa fà © de Bogot, where Viceroy Juan Josà © de Smano was the ranking Spanish official in Northern South America. The Spanish and royalists in the capital panicked and fled in the night, carrying all they could and leaving their homes and in some cases family members behind. Viceroy Smano himself was a cruel man who feared the retribution of the patriots, so he, too quickly departed, dressed as a peasant. Newly-converted â€Å"patriots† looted the homes of their former neighbors until Bolà var took the city unopposed on August 10, 1819, and restored order. Legacy of the Battle of Boyaca The Battle of Boyac and capture of Bogot resulted in a stunning checkmate for Bolà var against his enemies. In fact, the Viceroy had left in such haste that he even left money in the treasury. Back in Venezuela, the ranking royalist officer was General Pablo Morillo. When he learned of the battle and the fall of Bogot, he knew the royalist cause was lost. Bolà var, with the funds from the royal treasury, thousands of possible recruits in New Granada and undeniable momentum, would soon sweep back into Venezuela and crush any royalists still there. Morillo wrote to the King, desperately begging for more troops. 20,000 soldiers were recruited and were to be sent, but events in Spain prevented the force from ever departing. Instead, King Ferdinand sent Morillo a letter authorizing him to negotiate with the rebels, offering them some minor concessions in a new, more liberal constitution. Morillo knew the rebels had the upper hand and would never agree, but tried anyway. Bolà var, sensing the royalist desperation, agreed to a temporary armistice but pressed the attack. Less than two years later, the royalists would once again be defeated by Bolà var, this time at the Battle of Carabobo. This battle marked the last gasp of organized Spanish resistance in northern South America. The Battle of Boyac has gone down in history as one of the greatest of Bolà vars many triumphs. The stunning, complete victory broke the stalemate and gave Bolà var an advantage he never lost.

Doctorate of business administration in international business (DBA) Personal Statement

Doctorate of business administration in international business (DBA) - Personal Statement Example In fact, I had never heard of these terms, and did not think it was necessary to carry out such activities. Consequently, as you can imagine, I lost all my money from that experience. Fortunately, my parents were still financially supporting me, and I wasn’t responsible for a wife and children, car payments, or rent, etc. I was grateful that I still had a roof over my head, but I felt like a complete fool. I vowed then and there not to let that happen to me again. I learned some very important lessons from the above-mentioned debacle, especially about greed. Slow, steady earnings that keep pace with your life are just fine. Investments that yield higher profits more quickly are nice but they are also inherently risky. Using the Madoff scandal as a model of what not to do as an investor, I know now that diversification of assets is essential. Putting all your eggs in one basket so to say is never a wise practice in the world of investment. There are just too many uncontrollable and uncertain variables that could take down any one company or industry. I learned from my failures in investing. With a long career ahead of me, I can afford to take some risks, but should also focus on building a stable, long-term portfolio. On a much larger scale, this is the best time to be studying the failures of our economic systems and how we can build stronger, more secure ones for the future. It is clear that having a comprehensive knowledge of the law is as important as studying business alone. It is also important to do business with trustworthy institutions, and to do extensive preliminary research, such as through examining the company’s own as well as independent reports. In the past, we could rely on reputable brokerage firms, stockbrokers, and the advice of successful friends, but this is no longer an option, and calls for greater international regulatory and enforcement agencies have been

It has been suggested that there is a high level of co morbidity Essay

It has been suggested that there is a high level of co morbidity between dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. Disc - Essay Example The fact that these causes seem to be mainly biological in nature supports the fact that dyslexia is often found to be co-morbid with other learning difficulties that place strain on the individual. These can include, but are not limited to, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, depression, and conduct disorders (Reid, 2009). The purpose of this paper is to explore the conditions that are so often found to be co-morbid with dyslexia in the literature, and how this may affect the dyslexic child. Additionally, the paper will go on to discuss how these co-morbid conditions may affect the treatment or guidance that educators need to give children with dyslexia. What is Dyslexia? Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty that affects one main area of an individual’s progress in education. It is a difficulty in reading that is apparent regardless of the individual’s IQ or their previous instruction in reading (Reid, 2009). Many believe that dyslexia is no t a single condition, but can be used to encompass a wide range of difficulties that individuals may have when it comes to reading (Reid, 2009). ... Again, this can be a sign of other learning difficulties with a broader scope than reading or writing, so care must be taken when diagnosing and teaching these children. There is currently no cure for dyslexia, nor is there any overwhelming consensus about treatment or management (Reid, 2009). There are several programmes in place which are aimed at providing advice to educators who have contact with dyslexic individuals. One of the major important aspects for managing dyslexia is to remove the sources of stress and anxiety (Reid, 2009). These can include pressure from parents, teachers and peers to learn to read and write at the same pace as other children their age, which is evidently not possible for the dyslexic individual. Care must be taken not to add additional stress onto a child when attempting to educate them. Lyytinen et al (2008) suggest that educational styles that focus on visual learning are more effective than a simple focus on oral phonological training. It must be n oted that many management styles for dyslexia differ in their effectiveness for the individual and this must be recognized by those working in close contact with dyslexic individuals. Another interesting factor of dyslexia is that it seems to be highly heritable and therefore must have a genetic component (Scerri & Schulte-Korne, 2010). This may be linked to the co-morbidity that it has with other SpLDs, which are also highly heritable (Scerri & Schulte-Korne, 2010). There are some genetic markers that have been associated with dyslexia, including ROBO1 and DCDC2 (Scerri & Schulte-Korne, 2010). Abnormal codes in these genes is a good predictor of reading disorder. Some studies of dyslexia from a

The Rise Of Islamic Fundamentalism Politics Essay

The Rise Of Islamic Fundamentalism Politics Essay The emergence of radical and extremist Islamist movements has proved to be the principal source of instability in the world. From the 19th century the world has witness to a reawakening of the Muslim world in various places as a result of the encounter with Western culture  [1]  . The rise of radical Islamist groups has been influenced by the leading ideologues of Islamic fundamentalist thought, Jamal Al Din Al Afghani (1839-1897), Maulana Abul Ali Mawdudi (1903-79) the first Amir of the Jamaate-Islami, Ayatollah Khomeini (1909-89) leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Party of Iran, Hassan-al-Banna and Syed Qutb (1906-66) of the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt  [2]  . These ideologues advocated jihad against non-Islamic societies and states and emphasised that political power is indispensable to the establishment of an Islamic state. The concepts of Dar-el-Islam and Dar-el-Harb and jihad as advocated by the Islamists envisage a perpetual state of confrontation between Islamic and non-Islamic states.  [3]  Though Muslims, like any other non-Muslim, have multiple identities religious, ethnic, tribal, linguistic or territorial, the emphasis by the Islamists on the Islamic identity puts them in collision course with the state and other groups. Islamist intellectuals, ulema and activists have been seeking to blur the distinction between Islam as a religion and nationalism. They prop up the Islamic political consciousness by politicising already existing religious traditions and practices and by resisting change and modernisation. The concept of Ummah or Millat is being invoked to abet, support and legitimise the secessionist movements of Muslims living in non-Muslim states. If one goes by the strict definition of the term Islamic fundamentalism, it stands for a return to the doctrines of Islam in their original form as were practised in the medieval times. It could also mean idealising the historical past of Islam and calling for a return to pure and original Islam, which can be achieved through peaceful, lawful, cultural and spiritual means. But in practice, the focus of Islamists has been Islamisation of the state rather than reform of the individuals. It has generated conflict as the Islamic fundamentalists seek to impose their will through coercion, violence and terror. Islamist extremists pose a challenge to the secular and democratic polity, pluristic social order and inter-religious harmony. With the rise of Taliban to power, Afghanistan became the breeding ground of Islamist terrorism. The Taliban enforced their extremist religious and socio-political agenda and turned Afghanistan into the hub of arms, drugs trafficking and international terrorism with Osama bin Laden using it as a base of Al Qaida and other Islamist terrorist outfits. The threat posed by Laden and the Taliban to world peace and security was universally recognised and UN sanctions were imposed against the Taliban. Undaunted by international criticism, the Taliban unleashed atrocities against women, children, ethnic-religious minorities and political opponents, thereby deepening the internal divide in Afghanistan, besides violating the basic human rights of Afghans. The UN and other international peace initiatives made no headway in the face of determined Taliban opposition to share power with rival Afghan groups. Afghanistan remained fractured and turbulent posing great challenge to peace and security i n the region. The Taliban rebuffing all international appeals and ignoring widespread international condemnation, not only went ahead with the destruction of the colossal Buddhas of Bamiyan, but even made a public demonstration of their savage acts  [4]  . By destroying the rich and composite historical cultural heritage of Afghanistan, the Taliban sought to reaffirm Afghanistans lead role as a puritan Islamist state in South and Central Asia and also to set an agenda for radical Islamist forces. Osama bin Laden and his network played a key role in the terrorist attacks in South Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and also in the West. However, it was only after the 9/11 terrorist strikes on World Trade Centre and Pentagon that the United States and its Western allies recognised the severity of the challenge posed by Al Qaida and the Taliban. The US garnered sufficient political will to lead the global war against terrorism. The US-led forces have severely mauled the Taliban and the Al Qaida, destroyed much of their military machine and bases. However, both the Taliban and elements of the Al Qaida network still exist and are again growing within Afghanistan and neighbouring Pakistan. Leaders and thousands of supporters of Al Qaida and the Taliban militia have shifted to Pakistan. So ensuring sustainable security and stability in Afghanistan is a great challenge facing the international community. This can be achieved only by total elimination of the Al Qaida network, their sup porters, financiers, safe havens and training camps in various parts of the world. METHODOLOGY STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM To analyse the reasons of rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Afghanistan and its threat to the world. hypothesis Islamic Fundamentalism is a global phenomenon and its affects can be felt across frontiers. Afghanistan has become fountain head of Islamic fundamentalism. Afghanistan lies in the middle of a region fermenting Islamic fundamentalist terrorism. This is one single-largest source of terrorism on the planet earth, with scope for expansion into Central Asian Region, China, Eastern Europe, South and South East Asia. JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY With the development of modern communications and various connections between the terrorist groups on the increase, the trend of global terrorism is on the increase. Islamic fundamentalism which has been raising its head to support terrorism as a weapon for its war against the non believers. While all religions have their chauvinists, it is resurgent Islam which somehow appears to be at the forefront of terrorism. Of course there is a secular version of Islam but the vast majority of the Muslims believe that they can be true Muslims only if they live in an Islamic state. It is the self perception that true believers have a God given right to promote the historical relevance of a religion that is behind much of todays global terrorism. In fact Islamic fundamentalists are hypothesising that with the end of the cold war, secularism in their countries is giving way to their brand of Islam and are presenting themselves as an alternative to westernised rulers.  [5]   Afghanistan, which has had a long turbulent past including a period of erstwhile Soviet occupation, has been taken over by Islamic fundamentalism after a long and bitter conflict between various groups out of which as of late the Taliban has been the most successful. The Taliban have been trained in various Deeni Madrasas  [6]  and have been indoctrinated to enforce a very strict kind of Islamic rule on Afghanistan which is unlike any traditions in that countries much volatile past. Moreover with weapons and infrastructure supplied by the US to fight the Soviet occupation and those left behind by the Soviets gives a chance to the restless youth of Afghanistan to export terrorism with a religious face throughout the world. In view of this, it is quite possible that Afghanistan will become a major focal point for Islamic terrorists to train and act on the existing non Islamic states with the overt/ covert support of Islamic states. SCOPE 7. The study would concentrate on the rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Afghanistan with special reference to Taliban and its effect on the world. METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION 8. The study is primarily based on information gathered from books written by prominent Indian, foreign authors as well as information available on the internet. The books and periodicals used for the purpose of research have been drawn from the Library of Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington. Other sources of information are articles written in Indian, Pakistani, Western newspapers and news services such as the CNN and BBC as well as some defence journals. A bibliography of the sources is appended at the end of the text. The guidance given by Colonel SK Karwal, the Directing Staff has been of immense value in preparation of this paper. Afghanistan being a very current topic has undergone a series of ups and downs during the course of my preparation of the dissertation. ORGANISATION OF DISSERTATION 9.
